Citrus protein balls

Most days I do crave a sweet afternoon treat and I do love chocolate. I am also aware that if one must indulge then one must also look at getting some nutritional benefits at the same time as the emotional ones.

Taste is paramount, and texture.

There is nothing worse than gritty grainy protein shakes or balls and I do find the taste of cacao very overpowering, so tend to avoid using it altogether.  I would rather just eat real chocolate and be done with it!

I have found and started using a really special Vegan protein made by Vitality Nutrition - Real Food. Ground Down.

The other important tick box is to get rid of the craving or afternoon slump.
One ball and you are done.

Sugar fix - TICK
Hunger pang - TICK
General need to feel deserved of a treat - TICK

I have found adding citrus flavours give me personally the most satisfaction without leaving me feeling overdone.Lemons, limes, oranges… I have even added passionfruit and pineapple!

Here is the recipe I made today.

  • You can add more protein powder if mixture is too wet.
  • You can add the rice syrup or vanilla essence

I close my eyes, taste a small amount and let it sit in my mouth and work out what element might need tweaking.

  • If its perfect, get onto ball making and rolling in your seeds or coconut.
  • Place in container and I prefer to keep in freezer for some Hard Balls!
